When the U.S. entered World War II, David Oreck quit college to enlist in the Army Air Corps. At war’s end, the view of returning to class - and Minnesota, his home state - seemed too tame for a young man used to flying B-29 bombers. Instead, he took the first job he was offered: salesman at a Manhattan appliance distributorship.
